These slabs were cut from "the oldest holly tree in North Carolina".   At over 32" in diameter it was at least 100 years old and riddled with nails from standing in front of the Pittsboro Courthouse. Fire never fails to excite me.  Applied directly it's a wonderful tool for changing the color and surface texture,  indirectly I use coals to help dry some bowls which otherwise could take years to dry.
